Idris Elba to start Studio in Tanzania

Idris Elba, the British actor and humanitarian, is investing in a major film studio in Tanzania, according to the Director of Presidential Communications, Zuhura Yunus.

The project, if successful, will help not only Tanzania but also Eastern and Central Africa, and is aimed at promoting the growth and development of the film industry on the continent. 

The news was revealed a few days after Idris and his wife, Sabrina Elba, held talks with President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Elba has a net worth of $40 million and has expressed his keen interest in the development of Africa. In an interview with South African newspaper SA People, he stated that he wants to help develop the film industry on the continent and pave the way for more major films to be made. 

He feels a strong connection to Africa as his parents hail from Ghana and Sierra Leone, and he views himself as a leader or a beacon for young Africans. He is keen to use his expertise in media to amplify it in Africa and help the film industry grow.

The 49-year-old actor has been successful in his acting career, starring in movies like "Beast", which was entirely shot in South Africa. He has also won several awards and honors, including four nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor- Miniseries or TV Film, for his performance as Nelson Mandela in the biopic film "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom".

In addition to acting, Idris Elba has established himself as a musician, performing as a DJ under the moniker DJ Big Driss and as an R&B musician. 

In 2016, he was named in the Time 100 list of the Most Influential People in the World, and his films have earned more than $9.8 billion at the global box office, including over $3.6 billion in North America. This has made him one of the highest-grossing actors in the world.
